ROZZERS TOPPLE
BURY IN CUP
The long awaited debut of IAN CULLY proved worth waiting for on Sunday
as the ROZZERS gave one of their best
performances of the season so far with CULLY providing an extra cutting
edge in the forward line. There was shock at the OLD BELL in the early
morning when it became apparent that NICK SHEWRING would be unable to
travel after suffering the sudden onset of food poisoning. This meant
that IAN CULLY would start.
The ROZZERS managed to withstand early pressure from a strengthened
SAINTS side. The good defensive work was rewarded when MIKE HURST
latched on to a loose ball and finished effectively after 20 mins. The
SAINTS then appeared to shy away from their task at hand as the ROZZERS
sustained pressure in the SAINTS half. This culminated in CULLY marking
his debut with a goal on 38 mins after a goalmouth scramble. This left
the ROZZERS 2-0 up at the half time whistle.
The second half saw a rejuvinated SAINTS and the ROZZERS had to
defend efficiently in order to preserve their advantage. However the
rear guard action eventually gave way when a screaming 20 yarder dipped
over the helpless McHugh's head. The ROZZERS responded to this by
stepping up a gear and camping out in the SAINTS half. Instrumental in
this was a fine performance from NATHAN SHEWRING who despite wearing
outragous red and white boots spayed the ball about effectively in
midfield. The extra effort paid off when IAN CULLY completed a splendid
debut by swooping to head home a KEVIN MULLY cross from the right.
Jubilant and confident of progressing the ROZZERS continued to play fine
flowing football until the final whistle.
